Jesse John

Ah, Cocoa Vanilla... my first love!

Most of the supplies used on this layout are from their newest collection with a fwe oldies thrown in for good measure!

Lots of mixed media and sewing too.  I've mainly used Shimmerz products in the background but it was a case of matching colours rather than matching brands.

The alphas were deep in my stash, I can't remember where from, but they are the perfect match.

Thanks for looking!

A couple of cards...

I've been playing around with this month's Stick It Down card sketch...

As I was trimming down the first card from A6 to square I realised I could also make a tiny card with the offcut...

Supplies are from Jillibean Soup and SpiegelMom Scraps.

The diddy card is made from one sticker and adapts the sketch to 5 sections.

I covered the focal point of the larger card with crackle accents.  It's the first time I have used it - certainly won't be the last!

Love You. Love You too. Love You two.

This month's sketch at Stick It Down is an interesting one...

I had something completely different in mind when I was creating the sketch, but by the time I got round to creating the layout my idea had morphed.

I wanted to use these three Perspextives from Bramble Fox on one layout with three photos of my nephs.  I wanted the title to read Love you, love you too, love you two.

I used my watercolours to match the colours of the acrylics and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Hop over and link up with Stick It Down if you create with this sketch!

Panda's Lunch

I spent ALL of my magpie points at Hey Little Magpie last week.  I needed a treat, some just because goodies.  I bought a few sheets of Jillibean Soup papers and some large letters from their Shades Of Colour range.

The letters are such great colours.  I decided on a black background - partly because the letters really pop on black and partly because I've been told I need to work on black more by my cousinlets!  They are right, it gives good results.

I framed my title with lots of messy sewing.

I added a few splatters and sequins (Shimmerz sprays and sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps.)

Shaker Wreath

Carrying on from last week's shaker pocket, this week is a shaker wreath for SpiegelMom Scraps.

I had a relaxing time painting the wreath (which you can see in the process video) and loved the result.  It was hard to take a knife to it to cut the centre out!

I picked a muddy photo to scrap so I avoided painting the traditional floral wreath and stuck to greenery and leaves.

I used some of my fave paper from Pink Fresh - it's the perfect shade of mustard.

I added a sprinkling of bugs!

The ants are brads but because of the shaker pocket I cut the legs off and glued them on.

I added a few journalling strips and called it done.

You can find the sequins here!

Watercolour and Sequin Shakers

This month's theme at Spiegelom Scraps is watercolour and shaker pockets, and this is my first DT piece of the month.

I played around with some of my Daniel Smith watercolours on some 12x12 300gsm watercolour paper.  I buy a pad of 16x12 and trim the down to 12x12.  It also leaves two 4x6 or postcard sized pieces to practice on.

I picked my sequin mix before deciding on anything else.  Authentic You has navy, teal, gold and peach sequins in lots of different shapes, sizes and finishes.  I pulled out some card and vellum from my stash to match.

I fussy cut a couple of butterflies from a scrap of (Maggie Holmes?) patterned paper.  I cut the same shape out of mirri card twice and adhered the together.  The two gold layers are facing each other and reflected a lovely warm gold glow under the butterflies wings.

I hoard pretty vellum so I'm quite chuffed I was brave enough to cut in to this sheet!  I love that it allows the watercolour to show through.

I also made a tiny shaker pocker and stuffed it with as many Authentic You sequins as would fit!!

I added a few more sequins around the edge making sure I picked out some of the more unusually shaped ones.

One of the vellum panels is part of a free cut file from SpiegelMom Scraps, which again looks fab over the watercolour.

Rainbow Sketch

Over in the SpiegelMom Scraps Facebook community, we are having a little sketch challenge.  This rainbow sketch will be up for the month of March - anyone who creates a layout inspired by it and posts a photo on the relevant thread will be in with the chance to win some sequins!

I've created this layout... I'll honest it looked better in my head than it does on the card!

I feel my rainbow colours got a little muddied from the overspray - I'd prefer them a little more crisp.  I'm trying to work out how to make the layout that is still in my head!

I do love the sequins though... these are Rainbow Bright.

I had a bit of white overspray on my photo.  By the time I noticed it was already dry.  I decided to embrace it - I masked off my face and added a few more splatters.  I let them dry part way and then blotted.  This gives almost a bokeh effect.  I repeated it a few times building up layers of dots and blotting.

I think it goes well with the photo, which also has a sun flare in it, and hope to try this on other photos too.

Hope you can join us in the facebook group!

Stuck?! Guest Designer

Very excited to be guest designing with Stuck?! this month.

And here is my take on Laura's sketch.

I used Cocoa Vanilla's More Than Words collection and some Shimmerz.

It is such a beautiful collection but I need some more feminine photos to use with it - the boys won't thank me for scrapping them with pink and flowers!

I had a booboo with the black splatters but managed to fix it with white gesso.  You can barely notice now - do you see it at the top of the photo above?

Those enamel hearts... I'm trying really hard to use them and not hoard them!!

Here's the video...
