#smscutfile

Hi Chaps, I'm here today with a SpiegelMom Scraps layout using one of our free cut files.  You can find all our cut files here , and tag your Instagram photos with #smscutfile when you use our files - we love to see your work.  I especially want to see this cut file in use as it is one I designed. I have just got my hands on the latest sequin releases.  My favourite (I love them all, but you know!) are the little stars ' Stargazer ' but I was also really taken with the yellow mix ' What's Up Buttercup '.  Using them as my cue I pulled out some yellow papers and an assortment of black cardstock with different finishes. I spent some time cutting out pieces and backing the cut file.  I tried to spread the colours and patterns out as evenly as I could.  Once the hexagons were backed I added some black ink splatters and a sprinkling of sequins.  Very clean and simple, but also bold with a big impact. All that was needed to finish it off were the name an

Beep Beep

What a fab name for a kit, hey?  Beep Beep.  It's the latest like for ever kit and includes Dear Lizzy and Shimelle goodies.  I have my first DT layout to share... I jumped straight in (the kit arrived on Thursday and this post is due on Saturday) and turned to the exclusive sketches.  I like using a sketch for the first session working with a new kit.  I intended on a mixed media free layout but as I neared the end I felt I had to add a bit of colour behind the photos.  I used some gelato scribbled on to plastic packaging and mixed up with a water brush.  Then I added a few splatters too... once I've started... Although there were no sequins in the kit I felt the layout needed some.  I pulled out Salt Of The Earth mix from SpiegelMom Scraps (I proceeded to tip it all over the floor!  Sigh!) and also a few white stars from a previous like for ever kit.  I used temorary adhesive to hold the atsrsequins on a teflon mat and spayed them with blue mist.  Once dried

magnet clips

Before Christmas I was playing around with some tabs by Heidi Swapp and some magnetic tape... Rather than use the tabs with their own adhesive as a permanent addition to a page, I added magnetic tape.  This means they can be used as temporary clips.  I especially like the headings on these tabs for this use... who doesn't need a clip to keep their 'things to do' lists together? Thanks for stopping by!

hello

I'm up on the like for ever blog with another woodland layout today. I knew I had the perfect photo to match the pencil icons in the kit - my budgie perching on top of my collection of pencils.  He had only been here a few days and when he decided he liked pencils I knew we were going to be friends!! I loved the photo frames and overlays that came in the kit and tasked myself to use them on every layout.  Having used the gold frames on my first two layouts I opted for an overlay for this one.  I was a bit stuck for ideas for attaching it to the photo.  Sewing would certainly have been an option but I went with a gold paper clip from the like for ever shop. I popped up the hello die cut and the fussy cut pencil pot on foam to give a little more emphasis and dimension. And I finished off the layout with some hand stitching in gold thread.  Gold thread is not the easiest to work with; it is much stiffer than regular thread.  I do think the effect is worth the ex

Light Up Lighthouse

When I saw this ribbon from Crafty Ribbons I knew what I had to do... I decided to order my first set of Chibitronics .   I’ve seen them around but never taken the plunge before.   If you are thinking “huh?” Chibitronics are those little LED stickers.   You make a circuit from copper tape and attach a battery and your project lights up.    At first glance, it is just a normal card... lighthouses and a lovely cheesy saying. But look!  It lights up!!  And it is really simple too.  If you are thinking along the lines of 'well I was never any good at electronics at school' - forget that - this is craft, and you, my friend, are good at crafting!  You can see my process video for confirmation of how simple it is... I added a little gold shimmering spray over the saying so even when the light is not switched on it still has the illusion of light. You can easily hide all the magic with another sheet of cardstock and double-sided foam tape... I

Stick It Down

It is the design team reveal for the single page team at Stick It Down today.  We had this sketch to play with... And this is what I came up with... I've used my mixed media supplies along with Pretty Little Studio's Here Comes The Sun collection. I love the rainbow colours of this layout, and the washed out feel matches the rainy photos too.  I agonised over the black splatters... I went with them in the end as I feel they match the feelings I have about these photos.  I will add some personal journaling on the labels after sharing the layout. I filmed a process video if you fancy a watch... I hope to see you over at Stick It Down with your take on this month's sketches!

Joy is effervescent hope

Have you ever had a 'word of the year'?  I liked the idea but found it hard coming up with one word.  In the end, I settled on this little phrase... Joy is effervescent hope.  It came from a bible reading via UCB .  I wanted to go a little deeper so added the definitions and synonyms... Without getting too preachy - this is a craft blog after all - I like that having that hope in the Lord, knowing that he is always working for your best, can bring joy; joy that just spills over out of you that you cannot control.  I want that in my life! Back to the craft... I grabbed a 12" embroidery hoop and some paper and rub ons from like for ever 's Woodland kit. I added a few sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps to add some twinkle. To hang it I added some 3mm grosgrain and my favourite mint lace from Crafty Ribbons . I added the rub on butterflies to vellum and fussy cut around them.  This gave them lots of dimension and delicacy especially when only

Kindness and Confetti

Sequin confetti, of course!  Hi, I'm here today with a bunch of ATC's.  I am taking part in a swap you see... 52 cards themed 'Love, Kindness and Hope' and in return, I get 52 cards from all over the world made by different artists. I start with a master board - a big piece of watercolour paper that will eventually be cut down to size.  I made three sheets with different colours using mainly Shimmerz sprays in different finishes.  I added some stencilling with Dazzlerz paste for some texture. Next, I moved on to the fun bit - filling up 52 little glassine bags with sequin confetti.  I won't list all of the sequin mixes I used as there are far too many!  You can find them all here ! I printed out the phrase "throw kindness around like confetti" and trimmed them down to small slips of paper.  I have all my elements ready now so I set up my sewing machine.  I picked a background, a glassine bag of confetti and a sentiment slip and ra

Feeling Moody!

In the mood for a mood board that is! Have you seen SpiegelMom Scraps January challenge over in 15 Minutes to Scrap ?  It has been set by the lovely Hannah Lemieux and it is to use this mood board as inspiration.  Hannah also asks us to pay particular attention to textures and use one of the textures displayed in the mood board. When I start scrapping based on a mood board the first thing I notice are the colours.  I adore these colours - rich teals, metallics and greys are what stand out to me most.  However, you could also run with duck egg, wood, and white with a pop of mustard. Next, I notice the finishes - wood grain, velvet, hammered metal and - my favourite - woollen pompoms.  Seeing as Hannah specified texture I thought I would attempt to make some mini pompoms for my layout.  After five attempts I came up with something usable and gathered some other supplies... I knew I wanted to make a segmented sequin shaker pocket from vellum.  My vellum has a slightly grey ti
