Hanging Advent

I grabbed the numbers ribbon from the Nisse range from Crafty Ribbons and wondered how it could be used in a sewing-free way...

I pasted the back of the ribbon with matte medium (PVA glue will do too!) and allowed to dry before cutting into individual numbers.  This stops the ribbon from fraying.  Then I gathered up 24 little envelopes to hold my advent treats - nothing huge just a chocolate or two.

I used matching colours of 3mm to tie each number to an envelope and then attach it to a string of Christmas tree beads.  Quick and easy, and very effective!

Gingerbread Jar

Guess who's been having fun..?

Me!  I made this jar up with some kitchen staples and some Gingerbread House ribbon from Crafty Ribbons.

So.  Much.  Fun!!

I nabbed the recipie from Auntie Beeb - link - but added in some smarties to decorate with.

I added in some green seam binding and some red heart lace.

Father & Son

This month The Sparklers are working with circle and sketches...

The first sketch is from Laura Whitaker and was easy to scale back to my minimal style.

I was incredibly lucky to be gifted a Lottie Loves Paper voucher and bought a couple of packs of stickers from the new 1canoe2 range, and they formed the colour scheme for this layout.

The sequins are Puppy Dog Tails and Road Trips & Sunshine from the newest release.

This mustard colour is my 'thing' at the moment.  I'm wearing it daily and sneaking it on to as many projects as possible - it's my new neon!!

Stick It Down!

Hello November!

I'm the featured designer for Stick It Down's single page team this month.  Here is the sketch...

I've stayed pretty faithful to it but I have flipped it.

My first idea was to use some giant sequins (well, 25mm!) as scallops.

I used two colours of paste through a stencil from Pretty My Page.

When it came to my splatters I didn't have the exact colour I wanted - the silver was too dark and the white was too pale.  The solution was simple - mix the two together!

I also added a little shading with the mist to make the title pop.

Here is the video:

Also, there's a quick little cameo from Henley, my new budgie.  It was her first time on the desk and I was very distracted!  Photos of her will follow soon... when she learns to sit still!!

Advent Stocking

This creation is courtesy of my Mum - I had too many ideas to make so she stepped in, her hand sewing is much better than mine!!

This advent countdown stocking started life as a pillowcase.  Crafty Ribbons Gingerbread number ribbon is hand sewn to the front and a glass candy cane marker can be moved along each date as you countdown to Christmas.

As it is a pillowcase you can pop 24 small wrapped gifts inside, one to be pulled at random each day.  I love this idea as you are not constrained by the size of the pocket - it's hard to find 24 goodies that are so small!

It can also be used as a stocking on Christmas Eve.  As it is personalised, Father Christmas will know whose it is and filled with the appropriate goodies or lumps of coal!!

If you fancy whipping one up you can grab the ribbons from here and a pillowcase from either the airing cupboard or your local cheapy shop!  Have fun!

Pine Cone Decoration

I am absolutely in love with this pine cone rubber stamp from Skull & Cross Buns.  I stamped a whole bunch of the and fussy cut them out...

I scored a line right down the middle of each cone and folded them...

I then stuck 5 of them together, sandwiching a length of ribbon in the middle.

I tied the ribbon ends in a bow and added a few strings of sequins.

I now want to make a set of these to decorate this years Christmas tree!

Shakey Shake!

Autumn is my favourite (until spring arrives!) mainly for the colours and falling leaves.  I've made a shaker card capturing my favourite parts...

 Here's the process:

And a few close ups...

The cut file is from Pretty My Page.

The First Cut

I've had CVS Bohemian Dreams sitting in my craft room for a while now but haven't been able to make the first cut!  Finally it happened...

I was desperate to use my new Skull and Corss Buns stamp for the background.

I feel the urge to do more rubber stamping at the moemnt... we'll see where it takes me!

Sequins from SpiegelMom's of course!

And here's the process:

Kelly Barron

This week's SpiegelMom Scraps project was to scraplift our guest designer - Kelly Barron.

I took days to decide which layout to lift.  I could have lifted Kelly's entire back catalogue!!

I eventually settled on the layout above - a stunner, I'm sure you'll agree.

As you can see from the video I pulled out some Shimmerz Dazzlerz and Texturez.  They are currently 50% off in the shop.  Add my code: Laura15 and you'll get an absolute bargain!

The stencil is from Pretty My Page and I'm sure will become one of my favourites.

The sequins are Rollin' Rustic and are the perfect neutral sequin mix.

Nativity

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, in every shop you see.  It's too early for me, I'd prefer a ban until November!  But hey, that's not how it works...

Crafty Ribbons have three new Christmas ranges for this year, Nativity being the first release.

Thanks for stopping by!

p.s. I hope you sung the first line of this blog post!!

Christmas Gift Box

It's probably sitll too early for some of you but I'm blogging about Christmas...

I made this cute Christmas gift box using ribbon from the Advent range from Crafty Ribbons.

I added a tag and lid topper cut on my Silhouette Cameo to match the featured star design.  Really simple - i.e. wrapping double sided tape around a premade box and sticking ribbon on.  It's a great way to recycle boxes as the ribbon covers up and design or branding.

Stick It Down

Warning: Slightly Graphic(ish) Content - you might want to give this one a miss if you are squeamish!

This month's Stick It Down layouts are to be based on this sketch.

I stuck to pretty much exactly.  I've scrapped about the time I sewed through my thumb with the sewing machine...

Black, white and red seemed like the perfect colour palette.  This issue is black and white - I need to rest when I am tired.  When I don't, um... I end up seeing red stuff!

The flair is from Feed Your Craft, sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps and ric rac from Crafty Ribbons.

One day I was tired but carried on sewing, the old 'just finish this one then I'll rest' thing that all M.E. sufferers know so well.  The needle went through my nail and into my thumb and then snapped.  We pulled the half needle out complete with bloody thread.  The nail bed healed pretty quickly and the hole in the nail grew out.  I was lucky.  I really ought to listen to my body and rest when needed!

I hope you can join us over at Stick It Down this month!

Watercolor Colouring Book

I discovered a wonderful colouring book from Kirsty Rice called Summer Cutting Garden.  (I think there are/will be the other seasons too.)  It's on good thick paper, single sided and beautifully illustrated.  I had a play with my Daniel Smith watercolours with no aim in mind.  When the painting was finished (why didn't a take a photo?!) I thought I could turn it into a layout, so I started fussy cutting...

After quite some time with my scissors and then a craft knife for the inner areas my wreath was ready.

After adding a little watercolour to the background I popped the wreath up on foam pads for dimension.

I added loads of sequins - I kept wondering if it was too many but I couldn't stop!!

I added a few strips of journalling over one of the flowers.

Highly recommend this book if you like playing with watercolours!
