Big News

As we finish this year and look towards the next we all have ideas and goals.  One of mine is to use up some of my older stash to make space for the new goodies that will be announced at CHA.

I sorted through my box of SpiegelMom Scraps supplies and pulled out the bags of old sequin mixes that only had a few left or the mixes where I had used all but one type of sequin.  As I plonked them on the desk to reach for the next box to rummage through they landed in a waterfall effect, layered down one on top of the other.  I liked it and thought why not add that to a layout?

I left them in their original bags minus the branding and pulled out some complimentary threads.  I ran the top of the bags and the background through the sewing machine giving me floating shaker pockets.
All stacked up one on top of the other looks really fun and is surprisingly tactile.  I found myself flipping them up and down and playing with it!

Then I moved on to the next feature - my big title.  I hand cut the letters and stitched around the edges in the same coloured thread I used to attach the waterfall of sequin pockets.

And what a great subject for my last layout of the year.  Only a few months to wait...

Let me know if you have any tips for using up sequins, or have a go at this type of layout.

Happy New Year!

StashBusters Hop

It's time for round five of StashBusters!  This time we are tackling SPARKLE!

I rather like this layout - I'd go as far as to say it is one of my favourites from this year.

I thought I may have preferred it on a white background for a while, but I think the black accentuates the sparkle.

This will be my last hop with the Stash Busters group, but they will still be hopping on the last Saturday of each month.

Thanks for stopping by and I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

Sequinned Gifts...

Aah, SpiegelMom Scraps - I love your sequins so much!

I found a website that sells blanks - the kind of things businesses but to personalise and give away as promotional freebies.  I bought some coasters to fill with sequins to give as Christmas gifts...

And I think they've turned out geat!  I've used peachy sherbet to fill mine but any sequin mix without tiny sequins will work.

Jody is celebrating Christmas with 12 days of discounts - today you can get 17% off sequins with the code  17SEQUIN

Christmas Shopping Bag

Hey Folks, I'm sharing my last Crafty Ribbons project before Christmas.  I bought a plain canvas bag and have used goodies from the Santa's Grotto range to decorate it.

I have used super sticky double sided tape to attach my ribbons.  This is a strong enough adhesive to put up with bad weather whilst out shopping, and the rough and tumbles of the festive world.  Alternatively, you could sew the ribbon on.  The bag could also be used as a gift bag or a stocking-of-sorts.

I've layered up my ribbons to give a nice wide band of decoration.  The cut ends of the ribbon are neatly hidden by the Santa and Snowman motif.  Before cutting the central motif I painted the back of the ribbon with matte medium.  This stops any fraying and stiffens it up making it much easier to cut.  I added two little heart buttons with gold thread for the finishing touch.

Here are links to the products I have used:

SpiegelMom Scraps and Creative Scrappers

The SpiegelMom Scraps Squads are playing with Creative Scrappers this month.  You can pop over here to see all of our layouts.

I had three attempts at this sketch.  First one went in the bin.  I think the idea was good but it didn't work so I may go back and visit the idea again at some point.  Number two is featured in the CS blog post linked above.  By this time I was in the groove and wanted to go again!  So here is number three...

OK, I went off piste with the sketch but that is what they are there for - to start the creativity.

I used the free CS cut file and shrunk it down and then duplicated it.  I then had 12 holes to make in to shaker pockets.  I went to town with the newest sequin releases - they are SO lovely!  I also added in some cork hearts from SpiegelMom Scraps.

There is a video too...

I have used: All Natural, Coffee Break, Evergreen Bough and Cork-fetti Hearts.

Gift Card Wallet

Helloo!  Happy nearly Christmas!  Have you bought anyone a gift card this year?  I may be thought of as a boring present by some, but it is much better than a gift that doesn't hit the mark.  I've made a little wallet from felt and decorated with Doodle ribbon and a 3mm ribbon closing.

Ironically, I haven't bought the gift card yet so popped in an old Asda card for the photographing session!  This is for Crafty Ribbons challenge which starts today.  The theme is Christmas with Ribbon or Lace - join us?

Reindeer all the way

Hey Folks, I'm a bit obsessed with reindeer this year...

I'm sharing three sequinned Christmas cards with you today.  I had a hankering to make something reindeer themed and these are what I came up with...

This one is a deer ding bats font with a string of Holly Berries sequins tangled in his antlers.

This deer silhouette is taken from a photograph and put in front of a shaker full of Alma Mater sequins.

And finally, this Rudolph has a shaker nose stuffed with the smaller sequins from the Christmas Wishes mix.
All good fun, I hope you'll agree!

Snow Bites

I'm pretty sure everyone thinks their nephew is the best, except mine really is the best!  This set of photos is from last year...

They'd popped into the supermarket to get some bananas and Nephydude decided to fill up his pushchair with packets of Snow Bites!

My layout went a little wrong - well not wrong just different to how I'd planned.  I got my cut settings wrong so I just etched the snowflake cut file on to the card rather than it cutting all the way through.

I adore the snowflake stickers in this months like for ever kit!

The story was too long to go on the front of the layout so I journaled both sides of a tag and made a hidden pocket for it.

Here's the process:

White Ink on Kraft

I am having so much fun with the latest like for ever kit 'cosy toes'.  And I'm having fun not scrapping!  I'm not making any cards to sell this year but I have made a few for me to send...

I've discovered a love for white Liquitex ink splattered on to kraft cardstock - it looks like snow and I love it!!

I've used a bit of Heidi Swapp colour shine in the background, an ephemera piece and some sequins from SpieglMom Scraps.

Thans for stopping by!

Stick It Down

Today I am sharing my take on the December Stick It Down sketch.  I was really taken with this sketch... so different and lots of different avenues to explore.

Here is what I made:

I have used Cocoa Vanilla's Make A Wish collection and some matching thread.  I cut a large script B on my silhouette cameo and used that as my starting point.

I, for some unknown reason, decided it would be a good idea to sew around the B to help it stand out...  It took longer than I imagined and had lots of kinks and wobbles in it.  But my whole outlook on crafting is there are no mistakes that can't be covered up, and the gorgeous turquoise glitter enamel dots came to the rescue!

I painted the wood veneer with an ink spray as the natural wood colour was not working for me.  And there we are!

I'd love for you to join us at Stick It Down this month... see you there!

Festive Tea Towel

I'm up on the Crafty Ribbons Inspirations blog today...

Imagine the scene... the oven is on, the smell of a roast is in the air, the kids are laughing and playing, you pop in to the kitchen to check on the food and see this fun tea towel drying on the oven door!

I am making a few of these as gifts this year.  I bought some plain tea towels on offer and simply added a length of ribbon with my sewing machine.  I unpicked a little of the side seams so I could tuck the ribbon ends under for a nice neat finish.

I've used Parcels from Santa's Grotto for this one but any festive ribbon will work well.
It's a great way to cheer up the kitchen over the festive season, and may even make doing the chores a bit better!

SMS December Hop

Hey there and welcome to our Sparklers United blog hop!  Each month we come together to bring you some great tips, technique and inspiration!  For this hop, you should have arrived here from Rachel (whose project was lovely!)

I've gone a little off piste today...  I received my new sequins and wanted to try out the Build A Snowman Sequins mix first.  I love the tiny stars and there were a few pieces of sequin glitter (you know, the little bits punched out of the middle of the sequin?  Yep, I call them sequin glitter!) in the pack.  I pulled out some matching nail varnish and got to work...

It's fairly straight forward to do as you can see in my video - the only thing you need is time for layers to dry in between coats.

Thank you for spending your time with us today! I'd love for you be in the running for the $10.00 shop credit, so be sure to leave comments on all the blogs to be entered! You have until 6th December to comment and enter.  Sharing on social media will also earn you an extra entry.  Just leave another comment letting us know where you shared the blog hop event.
Now, you'll be heading over to Felicia's blog.  Enjoy the rest of the hop!!

Name Settings

Hey there, it's challenge day at Crafty Ribbons!  The theme for this week, and all the way up until Christmas, is Christmas with Ribbon or Lace.

I have a few name settings for the Christmas dinner table today.

These first ones were cut on my Silhouette.  I made a text box as you would to cut any words but I used the knife tool to slice the base of the letters off.  I deleted the little pieces below the slice line and that way the letters stay intact.  I decorated them with holly ribbon and gold dot washi.

This second pair use two ribbons, a few sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps and some (scary) hand lettering.  I did use a pencil first and went over in pen.  I must confess the sequins were not in the original plan but I tried to erase the ink too soon and made a smudge.  No mistakes, just opportunities for embellishing!!

Using Holly, Stag, Happy Christmas - Red  all from Santa's Grotto by Crafty Ribbons.
