ENCOURAGING WORDS twenty sixteen

Late in December I decided I would have a weekly project that I could add to through out the year.  (I then discovered the Craft Barn were running their A-Z again, typical!)  It will not be a pressure project and if I miss a week and do two the next it really doesn't matter. I've had a Amy Tangerine journal in my stash waiting to be used so I decided this would be my base.  I've given each page a generous coat of gesso so it's ready to go!  I've also had a slight hankering to have a go at Bible Journalling for a while, so this project is going to include that in a round about way too. Here you can see me working on the front cover and first page... And here are the few pages I've completed so far... The stars below are gelato and a baby wipe through a stencil.  I need to play a little more but I am loving the gelatos so far - top Christmas present! The first page uses Shimmerz Dazzlerz which are a beautifully shiny texture paste.  You can

hello

I have finally broken in to my new like for ever kit , hooray!  It has taken a while as my body has been demanding sleep for the last week!  I also have a big project, well it's not big as such, just time consuming... and that has had all of my energy.  I took a break from that whilst the glue was drying and had a rummage through the kit.  It is very girly but I managed to pick out bits that weren't pink to make this for my gorgeous nephew's album. I've used the kit, add on vellum and enamel hearts, and some sequins from my stash.  I was tempted to be all precious with the vellum - it is lush!  But what is the point of having it if you don't use it?! The photo sits on quite a tight cluster including bits from the ephemera pack, tissue paper that the kit comes wrapped in along with the vellum and patterned papers. I followed a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy and was hooked on the wonky squares around the layout.  I used three different coloured th

Saltire for Crafty Ribbons

Hi Guys, I am up on the Crafty Ribbons Inspirations site today sharing another ribbon flag.  You may remember I made a Tricolore last year to be displayed at the Paris craft shows Crafty Ribbons attends.  This time I'm sharing a Saltire or St Andrew's Cross.  It was on display at the SECC last year and will be again this year. For the tricolour I didn't use a pattern but this one was a little more complicated!  I used a spread of kraft paper to mark out my measurements.  You can see a work in progress shot... I work on the floor as a) I can't drop anything if it's already on the floor and b) I can't fall over and do myself a mischief!! I have used a huge heap of ribbon - all available at Crafty Ribbons - but far too many for me to link individually.  If there is a particular ribbon you fancy but can't find on their site give me a shout describing the one you are after and I'll find the link. Thanks for stopping by, and Happy Burns

SUMMER reflections

I am so pleased to be a Guest Designer for Show Us Your Stuff this month - very exciting! I was sent this mood board: And this is the layout I came up with: I've mainly used January's like for ever kit and add ons, with a little added ribbon and lace from Crafty Ribbons and some extra enamel dots from my stash. I took the colours from the mood board - red and white from the umbrella, yellow from the centre of the flowers and aquas from the water. I altered the mistable alphas from the 'twenty sixteen' kit... a little more on that later on. I adore these star paper clips!  The photo is awful BUT it captures the moment well.  I was too hot to do anything other than sit and drink water.  I was listening to pod casts and was obviously a little bored as I took a reflected selfie in the laptop screen.  (I'm not good with selfies at the best of times!) I coloured a few hearts in with my Derwent Inktense pencils and tucked a layer

Page Marker

Hi Guys,   I’m back with another DT piece for Crafty Ribbons Challenges .   This fortnight’s theme is flowers picked by Carol. I’ve made a page marker for my planner... It's a folded rose - instructions here - that my Nanny taught me how to make when I was a child.  She is a brilliant seamstress and made me a lot of pretty dresses, most of them had a folded ribbon rose on them. I sew the ends together, and pass a tiny stitch through the rose to keep it together firmly.  I added a pair of leaves, and glued them to a paper clip covering the back with a small piece of mint ribbon to hide all the gubbins. I have used :  Organza Swiss Dot   the reverse side of Carry Yarn in mint  both from Crafty Ribbons. As well as:  an arrow paperclip from my stash. I hope you can join us at  Crafty Ribbons Challenges this fortnight!

17 months

Well, it's that time again.  It is nearly new kit day at like for ever and I still have layouts from the last kit to share. This layout is using 3 of the Studio Calico Goldie papers, the denim cardstock, thickers, and a few bits from the ephemera pack for layering. The cut file is from The Cut Shoppe , with a few hearts cut off (I used them on a different layout - I'll share soon!) I tried a yellow to blue ombre on the thickers but it all turned green - not surprising really, basic colour theory.  So I painted over them in white - you can always cover up 'mistakes' in scrapbooking! Hope to be back with more layouts from 'twentysixteen' soon before 'smitten' hits my desk at the end of the week!

Picnic

Just scooting through my drafts folder and came across these photos from last year.  It is made with a like for ever kit - which one escapes me right now - but probably the first half of last year... I think the cut file is from the cut shoppe... again, it was so long ago I'm not certain! I am rather in love with all these soft colours and patterns! And clear acetate pieces too - I must dig some more out soon! Thanks for stopping by today!

THANKS

I've not scrapped much with this month's like for ever kit, but I have made a batch of thank you cards... I love the High Five! washi tape from the booklet - I could do with a hole roll!!  I got on board with the hand cut letter trend (a bit late I know!) and cut the word thanks from the gloriously coloured mustard paper.  I added some sequins from two previous kits to finish it off. Thanks for stopping by!

A-Z - B is for Bunting

I was over the moon to see the Craft Barn running their A-Z challenge again this year.  I enjoyed the project in 2013 perhaps the most I have ever enjoyed a crafty project.  I thought long and hard about how to work this year and in the end I decided to continue in the 2013 dictionary, in the same style and nature theme.  I did think try something different but as I said I enjoyed it so much last time - why not do the same again, for me, and enjoy it again? First up is B... for Bunting, Cirl Bunting in this case. It was good to get back to drawing... but I was scared of the eye.  I am out of practice!  It's not the best I've ever done and I'm looking forward to seeing if I improve throughout the year again. Thanks for stopping by! Linking at The Craft Barn .

On my desk today... A tripod and light, a deck of mixed media cards with a nature and found poetry theme, my beloved colour swatch moleskine.  I have swatched out all my colours in all mediums - best thing ever! You can find details of the deck swap here if you are interested - 10 places left... Thanks for stopping by, see you at your desk! Linking at WOYWW

Wash Bag

When my DT packages arrive from Crafty Ribbons Mum usually opens them with me.  It's nice to have somone to ooh and aah with.  My Mum - also know as my pet crocheter - is a good crafter too.  She wouldn't say that mind you.  She doesn't paper craft as such, but give her ribbon, fabric, yarn etc and she is away! She whipped up this little wash bag using the Summer Festival ribbon. Quite straight forward I'm told... however my lines would not be this straight! You can find the ribbon range here ! Thanks for stopping by

Friday Smiles

Good ol' predictable Laura!  It'll either be a photo of a rainbow or a flower, most probably an orchid... They make me smile!  Especially this one which is home grown and opened slowly yesterday. Linking up at Friday Smiles !

funny

I have finally got round to playing with like for ever 's January kit 'twenty sixteen'.  I'll be honest with you - I'm not a fan of the papers.  They are patterns and designs I would not have bought, nor have I thought much of the quality of the papers compared to the ones we usually get.  I am, however, fairly pleased with how this layout turned out.  Perhaps scrapping outside of your comfort zone is a good thing.  The alterable alphas, my favourite kit item, are coloured with some Shimmerz. This layout captures the day Nephey Dude randomly decided that apples were funny.  His cute levels are so high! And I raided the enamel dot pot for a mix and match line of shiny yummy-ness! WOYWW 344

Hi Deskers! On my desk today is what can only be described as chaos – not even ‘organised chaos’ whatever that is!   The good thing about this photo is that you can’t see the floor!! But for something you can actually see...   I didn’t buy my brother and sister-in-law a Christmas present.   I intended to but he bought her everything she wanted (aww!) and I didn’t want to get stuff for the sake of stuff, you know?   I pulled out my watercolour paper a few days before the big day and made them a customised painting. Thanks for looking, see you at your desk! Linking at WOYWW
