AJP-ing!

I'm sharing an art journal page with Crafty Ribbons Inspirations today...

I do more art journalling than I share, but this page is OK for sharing.

There are oodles of layers.  The page started out red, then I added black.  It looked like a murder scene so I gessoed over the top.  Then came black acrylic, pearl medium, thick layers of white acrylic, lots of shades of blue and green spray inks, sea salt, more ink for drips, scribbling in a roller-ball pen, inked tissue paper, various ribbon and lace.

The sea salt absorbs some of the wet ink and leaves pit like marks.  Love it but you have to be patient and let the ink dry thoroughly before you brush the salt off.

Here is a focus on the tissue and ribbon...

I was over thinking my colours at the beginning with the whole red and black fiasco.  From that came the words for the page 'let go and create colour'  You can see snippets of 3mm in both satin and grosgrain, saddlestitch, satin, seam binding and stripy ribbon.  Unfortunately the lace is sold out now - booooooo!!  There is also a bird from the vintage ribbon at the top of the page.  He there for no particular reason - just because - and that is how I art journal - in a 'just because' kind of way.  Have a go, you need only please yourself!

Now if only I could remember those last words and put them in to practice.  I need only please myself.

I Want To Ride My Bicycle

It's Thursday so it's Crafty Ribbons Challenge Day - hooray!

The theme is Ribbon and Stitching.  The stitching can be real or fake, just as long as it's there somewhere.  I've decided to share an alteration with you...

I bought these shorts last year but I am 'the wrong shape' and whilst they fit perfectly on the hips they were far too big on the waist.  We took part of the waist band off and gathered in the fabric, then reattached it to the now-shorter-waistband.  The problem was there were a few rivets that had left holes - no problem really - we just covered them with ribbon!  I hate to dress the same as everyone else so I really love that no one will have a pair of shorts quite like these!

I used bicycle ribbon from the Vintage Butterfly range.

Do join in with the challenge if you get a moment this week...

WOYWW 264

Today's WOYWW post seems to be sponsored by pollen.  My hay fever is driving me nuts, I'd quite like to stick a bottle brush down my throat to ease the itching.

So as you can see the desk is mayhem...

Here it is slightly less mayhemic.  (It should be a word!)  Cards to finish for a friend, strips to stick in to my art journal, two tombows on the go because I lost one and then found it as soon as I'd opened a new bottle, new butterfly ribbon to play with...

The new butterfly ribbon is super exciting for me as it is made with my photos.  I feel like a toddler leaving nursery clutching a messy painting in her sticky pudgy hand and beaming with glee and pride... it's a bit of a 'look, Mum, I made this!' moment.  No advertising on WOYWW but you can see where to get it from if you'd like some.

And finally the new washi storage we built.  Some space left for a few more rolls ;D

See you at your desk!

Helloo!

Last week I was away.  With this level of M.E. it is pretty much existing in a different house rather than a holiday, however I am truly grateful to be able to spend time elsewhere.  The week before that I received 4 parcels of stash - two birthday goodies, one set of new ribbons and one parcel that got lost in December and decided to resurface!

It was a little overwhelming to come home to so much new stuff, I didn't know where to start, what to look at, what to play with...  I used up my energy by thinking and not doing.

In the end I decided to pull out a stencil and some pitt pens from my box of goodies from Ashley.  (Ashley had a 'destash' and I bought the box - some amazing goodies that I'll be sharing soon...)    Having never used pitt pens before I just scribbled and coloured and doodled a little - just trying them out and seeing what they were like.

Verdict: really nice, good flow, vibrant colours.  No bleed through (unlike pro markers) and they don't smell (unlike pro markers).  Would definitely buy some more.

The stencil is a Julie Fei Fan Blazer design with a pattern repeat that lines up.  I like that.  I just moved it along, lined it up and carried on scribbling.

And then I added a little message to myself.  'Set your eyes on a target'.  A target.  One.  Just ONE.

Thanks for stopping by :)

By the way, today's target is to publish a blog post - tick!

I love Buttons!

It's my turn to share a project on the Crafty Ribbons Inspirations blog today.

I started with these...

which I pulled from a selection of Basics To Go - Novelty.  Seriously guys, get a bag of these!  Filled with all sorts of goodness!

And this is what I ended up with.

It's three strands of buttons very loosely plaited.

I used double threads and went through each button twice.

(I was going to apologise for my hairy arms but they are the only arms I have... and they serve me pretty well... so what the hey if they are a little hairy!!  We should all be a less focused on how dissatisfied we are with our bodies, I'm starting now!)

All held together with a lobster claw clip and a few jump rings.  Perfect for wearing on the beach.

Have a great day!

Hello. My name is...

Love how this layout turned out.  Bright colours, great photo, brilliant story.

I've used offcuts of papers and then filled the gaps with sequins and buttons and little bits of lace
 and loopy cord.

Thanks for stopping by!

WOYWW

Happy Wednesday Deskers!

My week has been  r e a l l y   s l o w.  The M.E. is being a right whatnot and today my legs have decided they don't want to work.  I'm bruised but not defeated, and have made it to my desk to take a photo.  That's an achievment in itself so I'm not worried that there is no actual crafting happening.

What is going on?  New ribbons, just released waiting to be made in to samples; notebook and notes - note that the note is not in the notebook... sigh; new batteries for my hay fever nose prong thing.

The new ribbons are wedding themed and are really rather nice.  I'll let the ideas form whilst lying down waiting for some energy!

Hope to see you at your desks...

Feathered Friends

A few feathered smiles for today!

I love this little chicks tatty tail.  I can imagine it was packed in the nest and the long tail feathers got in the way a bit!!

And our handsome robin...

Two smiles for your Friday - Linking up at Friday Smiles :)

My Chair

Well, it's challenge day over at Crafty Ribbons.  The theme this week is ribbon and butterflies.  Yep, sounds good doesn't it?  I made a layout...

titled My Chair.  You may have seen the Friday Smiles picture of our bun in the chair.  I combined my ribbon with my gelli plate and printed two shades of butterfly directly on to the ribbon.  So much fun and the second generation print was awesome too, it had the ribbon texture in it as well as the butterflies.  I used 40mm white grosgrain ribbon.

And I spritzed through the stencil on to the 12x12.  Added a few sequins.

I know I'm biased but ain't she beautiful?!

And here is the whole layout...

We'd love for you to join us over on the challenge blog :)

Create

Here it is!  The last in my series of mini canvases.

I used oil pastels, art bars, acrylic inks, acrylic paints, thread and snippets of washi and paper that were hanging around my desk!

The orange was probably the most fun to make but the least fun to name.  In fact I asked for help and Kay kindly pointed me to a page about orange and things associated with the colour.  From there I got it down to a short list and sat for ages wondering which was best.  I decided on create, the page mentioned creative flair.  I'm still not sure it is right!

They are sitting all lined up on my picture shelf.  They are dinky and really rather cute but  still pack a punch all together.

What do you think?

Kinda sorta want to do more in the in between shades of colour...
